EV Charging in Singapore

Why Home EV Charging Makes Sense

Singapore's EV adoption is accelerating rapidly โ€” driven by government incentives, the EV Early Adoption Incentive (EEAI), and a growing range of EV models from major brands. With public charging infrastructure still developing, having a home charger transforms the EV ownership experience โ€” arriving home each day to a fully charged vehicle.

Installing a dedicated home EV charger is significantly faster and safer than relying on a standard 13A socket. A properly installed, dedicated 7.4kW home charger provides 8โ€“10x more charging speed than a standard socket โ€” and is wired correctly with proper RCCB protection and earthing for safety.

  • โšก
    10x Faster Than a 13A Socket
    A dedicated 7.4kW charger provides ~40km/hour of charge โ€” vs ~8km/hour from a standard 13A socket.
  • ๐Ÿ”’
    Safer Than Improvised Charging
Dedicated circuits with correct RCCB protection are far safer than extension leads or overloaded standard sockets for EV charging.
  • ๐Ÿ’ฐ
    Lower Running Costs
Home charging at SP residential electricity rates is far cheaper per km than public DC fast chargers. Smart chargers allow charging during off-peak hours.

Process

Our Installation Process

From site survey to fully operational charger โ€” a smooth, professionally managed installation.

01

Site Survey

We survey the installation location, assess the DB box capacity, plan the cable route from DB box to charger location and confirm whether single-phase or 3-phase supply is available and required.

02

Quote & Permits

Provide a detailed written quote covering all materials and labour. We advise on any condo MCST or EMA permit requirements and assist with documentation required for approval.

03

Installation

Install the dedicated circuit from DB box, run cables neatly, mount the EV charger unit at the agreed location, connect all wiring, install RCCB protection and ensure the charger is correctly earthed.

04

Test & Commission

Test all connections, verify charger operation with your vehicle, confirm correct RCCB function and provide you with a handover and any documentation required for warranty or records.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

For landed properties, EMA notification is required when installing a new dedicated circuit for an EV charger. For condominiums and HDB flats, you will also need MCST or HDB approval before installation. We advise on the specific requirements for your property type and assist with the documentation needed.
Technically yes, but it is not recommended as a permanent solution. A standard 13A socket provides only about 2.3kW โ€” giving approximately 8โ€“10km of range per hour. More importantly, drawing continuous high current through a standard socket and extension lead is a fire risk. A dedicated 7.4kW home charger is significantly faster and safer.
AC chargers (Type 2, 7.4kW or 22kW) use the car's onboard charger to convert AC to DC. They are suitable for home and workplace charging where speed is not critical. DC fast chargers convert power externally and charge much faster (50kWโ€“350kW) but are expensive and require significant electrical infrastructure โ€” typically only viable for commercial applications.
Charging time depends on your battery size. A typical EV with a 60kWh battery would take approximately 8โ€“9 hours to charge from 10% to 100% with a 7.4kW charger โ€” perfect for overnight home charging. A 22kW 3-phase charger would reduce this to approximately 3 hours for the same battery.
Yes, but you need MCST approval first. Most condominiums now have a process for residents to apply for a dedicated EV charger in their allocated lot. We assist with the technical information required for MCST applications and complete the installation once approval is granted.
